Bike maintenance courses
A bike maintenance course will give you the skills & confidence to service & repair your bike. A bike in good condition is safer & much less likely to break down. If you’re unlucky & something does go wrong, you’re more likely to be able to repair it & ride home if you have the right skills.
Mountain bike & road bike maintenance courses are run as 1:1 or 1:2. The 1:2 courses are for people to book as a pair. This is because the majority of demand is always for 1:1 & when I’ve advertised group dates they tend not to fill up. However, if you have a group of 3 to 6 people organised just get in touch to book a course at a group rate.
As you’d expect, 1:1 & 1:2 courses allow the day to be shaped specifically to your needs. Just get in touch to arrange a date that suits.
Lunch is provided – can’t tell you what it will be on the day but let us know about any allergies or dislikes when you book!
If you’re mostly confident in your abilities but want to progress we can also help with more advanced skills, even some fork & shock maintenance. Just ask for details of exactly what can be covered.
If you want to make a few days of it why not add a skills course or ride the local trails?
Some cycle friendly accommodation info can be found on the following links:
Chasing Trails gift vouchers are always available if you’re booking as a present. Just ask & we can post or email a voucher. Email is ideal if you’ve left it to the last minute! The receiver can then book a date when convenient.
To book either type of course, contact us for a date & pay by card via the PayPal buttons below, by bank transfer (details supplied when a date’s sorted) or you can send a cheque if there’s plenty of notice.
Service & repair courses
This course covers skills needed to service & repair your bike. Even if you don’t have time to do your own servicing it’s helpful to have the knowledge for trail-side repairs like fixing a broken chain & replacing a cable. Workshop tools are nice, but many repairs can also be done with a multi-tool & a few other affordable bike specific tools, so you won’t need to rush out & buy a huge set of expensive tools.
Gear cables are included & KMC chains are available for reasonable prices. They’re the toughest & longest lasting in my opinion. The fact that they’re also a good price is just a bonus.
A maintenance course is a great investment, 2 or 3 repairs & you’ve paid for the course.
Bicycle strip & rebuild courses
Some people prefer a strip down & rebuild course. We like to offer what people want, so this is another option. You end up with similar skills & knowledge to the standard course but from a different approach. We’d say pick the one you like the sound of or phone for some advice.
A good practical reason to do a strip & rebuild course is if you want to get your frame resprayed. If you’re local & you want to do a 1:1 course as two half days or evenings, you can then send your frame to get re-sprayed & return for the rebuild when it’s done.
If you know that some components need replacing bring them along & feel free to ask for advice before the course
Again, gear cables are supplied & KMC chains are available. We offer 1:1, 1:2 or group courses if you have a group arranged. Max group size on the strip & rebuild course is 4 people to keep everything running smoothly.
